Daybed Covers Sets

The whole point of a daybed cover set is to disguise a bed, turning it into a couch during the day. A dust ruffle hides any mechanism that is under the bed, making the bed look like an ordinary couch. Quilted or plain pillow shams can be placed over large pillows that reduce the depth of the seat. Or the depth can be reserved, making the daybed into a deep-seated couch. With that said, there are many variations in the style and type of coverlet that can be used to make up the daybed.
Quilting is an ancient art, beginning with the need to pad metal armor or to increase the insulation in a coat. Quilted bed covers were originally made from whole pieces of fabric, stitched to hold down or bats of wool or cotton in between the layers. Of course, as the years passed, women of all walks of life created patterns for the stitches. Patchwork developed as a means to make use of every scrap of available fabric. The Victorian Crazy Quilt is probably the most famous patchwork style, incorporating embroidery, buttons, braid and more to create a coverlet that was amazing in its color and inventiveness.
Pillow shams are covers that are placed over pillows. Often quilted, they coordinate with the spread. Three pillows at the back of the daybed are traditional, but of course, you can add throw pillows and other decorative pillows as desired.
A dust ruffle around the edge of a bed helps hide trundle beds or under-the-bed storage boxes. It can be ruffled or it can be a simple straight piece of fabric with a kick pleat or slit at the corners of the bed. For daybeds, it helps to disguise the nature of the piece of furniture, making it look more like a couch.
Daybed covers help to create the illusion that a daybed is really a couch. They can be formal, fun, or just easy-going. They usually include a spread, a dust ruffle, and at least two or three pillow shams that coordinate with the dust ruffle and spread. They can be a clever way to turn an ordinary twin bed into a deep-seated couch during the day while preserving its function as a simple bed at night.
The cover that you choose will depend upon your taste, your home décor style, and the location and use of the daybed. Below you will find ten examples.
