What better way to enjoy the days just before Thanksgiving than prepping your house with handmade decorations. Here’s an idea for a beautiful burlap wreath to hang on the front door.
Jen at Tatertots & Jello made this wreath three years ago, but it’s so lovely that it definitely deserves a reminder. The whole project is really easy and doesn’t take too many supplies.
Here’s what you need:
- A styrofoam wreath ring
- A 36″ square piece of burlap
- Colorful fabric scraps
- Scrabble tiles
- Hot glue gun
- One of two types of ribbon
Steps:
- Cut a long piece of burlap about 4 inches in width. You might need two pieces if your wreath form is larger.
- Attach one end of the strip to the back of the wreath with hot glue, wrap the burlap around your wreath and hot glue the other end to secure it.
- Use the rest of burlap and the fabric scraps to make as many flowers as you want to see on your wreath. If you want rolled flowers such as Jen’s, prepare strips 1 inch in width by 32 inches or shorter if you like smaller flowers. Fold the material in half width-wise and roll it tightly several times to make a firm center. Then add a drop of hot glue and wrap the material around, adding glue as you go. Glue the end of the material underneath the flower.
- Now it’s time to decide what message you want to convey on your wreath. Hot glue the scrabble tile words onto a piece of paper and then cut the whole out, making sure the paper edges are not showing.
- Hot glue the tiles to the wreath.
- Decide how you want the flowers to be arranged and attach them with hot glue.
- Cut two pieces of ribbon – one for the loop and one to make a bow. Hot glue the bow at the top of the wreath and enjoy!
