Go check the old Christmas ornament box – there must be some forsaken glass baubles waiting for another lease of life. Get them out and give them a major transformation. After all, isn’t Christmas all about rebirth?
They might be plain and ugly, shiny or matt – it doesn’t really matter as they’re going to get a brand new coat. Collect some Christmas baubles that have seen better days, take out that bag with fabric scraps and get a glue gun ready. These vintage baubles are thrifty, fun to show to kids, and make lovely early Christmas gifts. And the best part is that they can be used as an all-year decoration. If you don’t have any glass baubles to spare, styrofoam balls are going to make the project even easier – pick them up in your local craft store. Oh, and you will also need a piece of string or a narrow ribbon for loops to hang your beautiful ornaments.

These cuties are made from pieces of vintage patterned paper decoupaged and sealed with an antiquing medium, but hotgluing small scraps of fabric onto a ball will produce a similar effect. If you add lace ribbon and a string of faux pearls, you will get adorable, romantic ornaments suitable for all sorts of occasions.

To make an ornament like this one, you need to roll the fabric up into a long strip, then twist the entire thing from end to end and hot glue it to a styrofoam ball. You can also use magazine pages or sheet music instead of fabric.
