Forget ready-made centerpieces and boring candle holders – it’s time to get creative. Use a few plumbing pipes and assorted fittings to make a scene-stealing, modern candelabra that everyone will envy!
OK, perhaps not everyone will necessarily want to have a pile of scrap copper on their Christmas table – it’s hugely a matter of taste – but your creativity will definitely be appreciated. If you have a thing for upcycling and accessories with a modern twist, don’t hesitate to dress your place with a bit of creepy, industrial chic – plumbing pipe candelabras are all the rage now and they are even sold commercially (check out the ingenious Pipe Work Series by Nick Fraser).
With cold days ahead and dusk setting in well before four in the afternoon, every additional source of light is never to be overestimated. And crafting something really useful and super easy seems like a perfect decorating project when you have a tight end-of-year schedule (and most of us do, looking for perfect presents, cleaning, making gingerbread cookies, booking flights and doing all the things we believe we have to do before the year ends).
The process is really child’s play – just like Lego blocks. Get some inexpensive metal pipes plus a few complementary fittings and let your imagination do the rest. Then spray it with heat resistant paint (it has to stand up to the hot wax drippings) or leave it raw and polish the surface to a high shine to make it reflect the flickering flames.
