When one door closes, another opens, in so many purposeful and inspiring ways. Hall tree, coffee table, potting station, wall organizer, porch swing, and what not else – the sky’s the limit to what you can do with vintage doors. Here’s how you can use them to give your bed a style upgrade.
A DIY vintage headboard will instantly add charm to you bedroom, so if you have a pair of old doors you’re not sure what to do with, think no more. If you don’t have any, check yard sales and flea markets. It might be a pair of dramatically tall, carved, massive doors or a standard French window, an intricately ornamental Thai temple door or a shabby rustic gate – the beauty of such projects comes from the idea that you give meaningful life to something that’s doomed for oblivion. Wouldn’t that help you sleep better?
Here are 8 inspiring examples of headboards made from old doors. Well, 2 of them are technically not headboards, but they come really close to that so they can count.

Got inspired? Got the doors? You’re just a few steps from having a fabulous headboard. Some doors will need sanding, priming and brushing on a few coats of paint, others will have to be trimmed down to size, especially if you want to use the door horizontally. Generally speaking, making a headboard from a pair of doors that sit vertically is a lot easier, but even if you go for this option, don’t take too many shortcuts – it’s not enough to place the panels against the wall and block them with bed platform. Screw at least two pieces of lumber to the wall and secure your headboard to the planks. Just to be on the safe side and sleep easy.
